Services
Functionally, the Smith Breast Care Center is divided into a section on breast cancer risk assessment, genetic testing, and prevention, a section on breast imaging, image guided biopsy, and breast cancer diagnosis, and a section for breast cancer treatment, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and other approaches. Ancillary services, such as psychological counseling, Reach to Recovery, patient education, and other important functions are also available. Many of the physicians in the Center focus their careers on breast disease and breast cancer management and are recognized experts in their fields. Available expertise in mammography, breast cancer prevention, genetic testing, pathology, surgery, endocrine and chemotherapy as well as other breast cancer treatments illustrate this unique feature.
A multi disciplinary conference meets weekly to review history, physical exam findings, all X-rays and pathology. Participants include medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiation oncologists, clinical psychologists, genetic councilors and nursing staff. This allows an integrated management plan to be developed for individual patients with complex problems.
