My laboratory is part of Breast Care Center at Baylor College of Medicine located in the Texas Medical Center . I have Faculty Appointments in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The research objective of my laboratory is to understand what promotes breast cancer development and progression. In our research, we combine molecular/genetic analysis with cell biology tools, and make use of recently developed animal models. Our main goals are to elucidate the biological significance and mechanism of action of estrogen receptor (ER) corepressor proteins, and to understand the role of the nuclear scaffold attachment factors SAFB1 and SAFB2 in breast cancer. Other projects involve 1) the characterization of a locus of high loss of heterozygosity on chromosome 19p13, 2) the analysis of nuclear structure and hormone receptor activity, and 3) the identification of novel genes and pathways involved in breast tumorigenesis.
