Houston’s “Pink Ribbon House” Benefits Baylor Center

Construction has begun on a million dollar home in Houston benefitting the Breast Care Center at Baylor College of Medicine and The Methodist Hospital.

Houston’s first “Pink Ribbon House” is being built by Carol Gladziel of Keystone Homes. The Houston chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) will provide professional interior designers to decorate the home, which will be an ASID Showcase Home for 2003. In October during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the public is invited to tour the home; funds raised from sponsors, donations, event tickets, and tour tickets will benefit the Breast Care Center. The fundraising effort is co-chaired by Jane Parker and Jane Marmion. Honorary Chair is Beth Moore, a breast cancer survivor.

C. Kent Osborne, M.D., and his renowned team of researchers established the Breast Care Center in 1999. Internationally recognized for his work in breast cancer research, Osborne and his group are leaders in breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. The research program has been designated by the National Cancer Institute as one of nine Specialized Programs of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer in the United States.

The Breast Care Center offers a wide variety of services in one location at The Methodist Hospital’s SmithTower. Most significant was the opening of the only completely digital mammography center in the world. Osborne and his team of researchers are leading the way toward breakthroughs in breast cancer therapies.

Event Co-chair and breast cancer survivor Jane Parker says the Pink Ribbon House is an exciting effort in the fight against breast cancer. “This unique fundraiser will bring together the most talented and dedicated professionals to create a house, while increasing awareness of breast cancer and raising funds for research,” said Parker. “The public is invited to tour the home, enjoy the design concepts, and receive life-saving information on breast cancer, research, and detection.”
