September – October 2006

D. CRAIG ALLRED, M.D., attended the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium in Chicago on September 14, where he presented a talk entitled “DCIS: Can We Predict Who Will Develop Invasive Cancer?”  Dr. Allred as an invited speaker presented “New Insights into the Progression of Human Premalignant Breast Disease to Cancer “at a seminar in ColdSpringHarbor on September 25.  On October 6, Dr. Allred presented “New Insights into the Evolution of Human Premalignant Breast Disease to Cancer” to TMH residents.  He attended the AstraZeneca/ Baylor College of Medicine Collaboration meeting in Boston on October 9, 2006, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Awards Ceremony in New York City on October 16th.  In Atlanta GA, Dr. Allred presented “The Biology of Precancer” at the School of Breast Oncology on October 26.

JENNY CHANG, M.D., was invited to present “Novel Approaches for Breast Cancer” at the Annual Community/Academic Oncology Forum in Dallas TX on September 16.  She presented “Can Biologic Markers Predict for pCR in Neoadjuvant Therapy?” at Great Debates in Breast Cancer in Las Vegas, October 13.  On October 16 Dr. Chang presented “Stem Cells and Therapeutic Resistance” at the BCRF Symposium in New York City.

RICHARD ELLEDGE, M.D., was asked to present to Baylor’s annual Internal Medicine CME course, held at Trevisio’s on September 29, where he presented “Breast Cancer Biology”.  On October 14, Dr. Elledge attended the NSABP’s Fall Meeting in Baltimore.  Cytogen Corporation asked Dr. Elledge to attend an Advisory Board meeting in New York on October 18, and on October 20 he gave a presentation to the attendees of the Baylor Breast Center Research Retreat entitled “What is a Breast Center?”

SUZANNE A.W. FUQUA, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at the Adjuvant and Neoadjuvant Therapy Meeting, held September 8-10 in New York, presenting “Nuclear Hormone Receptors in Triple Negative Breast Cancer”.  Dr. Fuqua was an invited speaker in Athens, Greece, at the International Congress on Hormonal Steroids and Hormones & Cancer.  She presented “Crosstalk between Growth Factor Signaling Pathways and Estrogen Receptor in Tamoxifen Resistance”.  At the 3rd PacRim Breast & Prostate Cancer Meeting held in Frasier, Australia, October 31 through November 3, Dr. Fuqua presented “Inappropriate Activation of Androgen Receptor by SRC Tyrosine Kinase in Prostate Cancer”.

SUSAN G. HILSENBECK, Ph.D., served as a faculty member at the AACR ACORD Workshop September 3-9 in Queensland, Australia, and presented "Practical Skills Session -- Biostatistics I".  She participated in the NIH Cancer Biomarkers Study Section held October 12-13 in Baltimore M.D..  She also participated in the ASCO Methods Course Directors' meeting held October 24 in Alexandria VA.
Mamta KalidAs, M.D. was invited to participate in the “Eliminating Disparities in Clinical Trials (EDICT): Formulating Policies” roundtable, September 6-8 in Houston.  She also was the featured guest speaker at the “Diamonds and Denim” luncheon, benefiting the Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization Texas Gulf Coast Affiliate, on October 24 in Kingwood TX.
ADRIAN LEE, Ph.D., was invited to speak at the Controversies in Breast Cancer Meeting held September 4-5 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland, presenting “Cross-Resistance to Growth Factor Signaling.”

MICHAEL LEWIS, Ph.D., traveled to the EMBO workshop on Hedgehog-Gli Signaling in Cancer and Stem Cells, held in Rome, Italy, from September 30 through October 4th, where he presented a poster entitled: "Constitutive Activation of Smoothened (Smo) in Mammary Glands of Transgenic Mice Leads to Increased Proliferation, Altered Differentiation, and Ductal Dysplasia."

YI LI, Ph.D., attended the AstraZeneca/ Baylor College of Medicine Collaboration meeting in Boston on October 9.  Dr. Li also presented an abstract at the AACR Mouse Models of Cancer conference held in Cambridge MA October 25-28.

C. KENT OSBORNE, M.D., was invited to present “Growth Factor Receptors and Response to Endocrine Therapy” and “Novel Therapies” at the Controversies in Breast Cancer meeting held in Edinburgh, Scotland, September 4-5.  Dr. Osborne was also a plenary speaker presenting “Mechanisms for Resistance to Estrogen Deprivation and Strategies to Overcome Them” at the 25th Congress of the International Association for Breast Cancer Research in Montreal, Canada, September 15-17.  Dr. Osborne was chosen for The Dr. Jacob Hollenberg Lectureship in Winnipeg, Canada, on October 30, where he presented “Mechanisms of Endocrine Therapy Resistance in Breast Cancer” and “Breast Cancer: Past, Present and Future.”

RACHEL SCHIFF, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at the Adjuvant and Neoadjuvant Therapy Meeting, held September 8-10 in New York, presenting “New Strategies to Overcome Resistance to Endocrine Therapy”.  At the Italian Association of Medical Oncology conference held in Naples, Italy, September 14-16, Dr. Schiff presented her talk, “Estrogen Receptor and Growth Factor Receptor Pathways Crosstalk in Breast Cancer Endocrine Resistance: Clinical Implications”. 

YEE-LU THAM, M.D., was invited to present at the Sugar Land Cancer Center Breast Cancer Conference on September 12 by the Spring Branch Medical Center, presenting a case on Stage IV invasive ductal carcinoma using Lapatinib for brain mets.  Dr. Tham was invited to attend an advisory board for AstraZeneca in San Diego CA on September 30.  The meeting was entitled “Assessing Patterns of Care in Hormonal Breast Cancer Therapy: A Dialogue on Treatment Decisions in the Community Setting.”  On October 13, Dr. Tham was asked to speak on “Breast Cancer Awareness” at Ben Taub General Hospital for the Survivor Day Celebration hosted annually by The Pink Ladies of Ben Taub. 

HEIDI L. WEISS, Ph.D., participated as a statistical reviewer on the NCI Cancer Prevention, Control and Population Sciences Special Emphasis Panel held September 27-29 in Bethesda, M.D..

July – August 2006

D. CRAIG ALLRED, M.D., presented a poster entitled “The Emergence of Histological and Genetic Diversity in DCIS” at the 14th Annual Spore conference held from July 16 – 19, 2006, in Baltimore M.D..  He attended the Fifth Annual International Congress on the Future of Breast Cancer, held from August 3-6, 2006, in Kona, Hawaii, where he presented: (1) “The Origins of DCIS and the Emergence of Diversity in Breast Cancer”, and (2) “Alterations of Genes and Molecular Pathways in the Development of Very Early Hyperplastic Precursors of Breast Cancer”.

JENNY CHANG, M.D., was invited to present “Update on Chemotherapy and Novel Targeted Agents in Metastatic Breast Cancer” at Oncology Best Practices 2006, Advances in Breast Cancer, in Houston TX on July 25, 2006.  She presented “Small Molecule ErbB Inhibitors: Biology and Clinical Promise” and “The Mammary Stem Cell: Implications for Prevention” at the Breast Cancer Congress in Kona, Hawaii, August 3 – 6, 2006.

Richard elledge, M.D., was invited to participate in the NSABP’s Breast Cancer protocol design meeting held in Pittsburgh PA, August 31, 2006.

SUZANNE A.W. FUQUA, Ph.D., was invited to serve as a panel member for the review of NIH Oncology Fellowship and Area grant applications held July 10-11, in Gaithersburg M.D..  She was also invited to speak at the 5th Annual Future of Breast Cancer: An International Breast Cancer Congress which was held in Kona, Hawaii, August 3-6, 2006, where she served as a member of the faculty and presented “New Insights into ER-Negative Breast Cancer”.  Dr. Fuqua attended the 14th SPORE Investigators’ Workshop held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel, July 16-19, 2006, presenting “Role of Androgen Receptor in Tamoxifen Resistance in Breast Cancer”.

SUSAN G. HILSENBECK, Ph.D., presented "Biostatistics for the Clinical Trialist" and served as a course director at the AACR/ASCO Workshop "Methods in Clinical Cancer Research", held July 22-28 in Vail CO. She served as a reviewer for the NCI Cancer Genome Study Section, held August 8-9 in Gaithersburg, M.D.. She also participated in the Lapatinib Think Tank, held August 17-18 in New York City, NY.
ADRIAN LEE, Ph.D., was invited to participate as a reviewer for the 2006 BCRP Endocrinology Peer Review Panel from July 30-August 1, 2006, in Reston VA.

MICHAEL LEWIS, Ph.D., was invited to participate in the DOD Molecular Biology and Genetics-2 Study Section held July 30-August 1, 2006, in Reston VA.

YI LI, Ph.D., attended The Endocrine Society’s 88th Annual Meeting and was an invited speaker for the symposium on Breast Cancer Biology: Role of Estrogen and Progesterone in Stem Cells, Development, and Progression, where he presented “ER Status of Breast Cancer May Depend on Both the Cell of Origin and the Initiating Oncogene”.  The meeting was held June 24-27, 2006, in Boston MA. 

C. KENT OSBORNE, M.D., attended the 14th Annual SPORE Investigators’ Workshop held in Baltimore, M.D., July 16 -19, 2006, where he presented “Complete Blockade of the HER Signaling Pathway Combined with ER-targeted Therapy Eradicates Breast Tumors in a Xenograft Model.”  Dr. Osborne as an invited speaker presented “Breast Cancer: Metastatic and Adjuvant” at the Big Sky Oncology Update 2006 Conference in Big Sky, Montana, on August 11-13, 2006.

RACHEL SCHIFF, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at the Biological Basis of Breast Cancer Conference held in Dana Point, California, from July 6-9, 2006.  She presented “Updates on Estrogen Receptor Biology: Continuing Progress and Therapeutic Implications”.  She attended the 14th Annual SPORE Investigators’ Workshop held from July 16-19, 2006, in Baltimore M.D., and presented “Crosstalk Between Estrogen Receptor and Growth Factor Receptor Pathways in Breast Cancer Endocrine Resistance: The Role of Genomic and Non-genomic Actions” at the 2006 FASEB Summer Research Conference “Mechanisms of Action of Steroid Hormones:  Integration of Membrane- and Nucleus-Initiated Effects”, held July 29-August 3, 2006, in Tucson, Arizona.  Dr. Schiff was an invited speaker at the ASCO Breast Cancer Retreat in Aspen, Colorado, from August 10-14, 2006, presenting “Genomic and Non-genomic Effects of Estrogen Signaling”

May – June 2006

D. CRAIG ALLRED, M.D., was invited to speak at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston MA on  May 7-8, 2006, for the DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer Seminar Series, presenting “New Insights into the Progression of Human Premalignant Breast Disease to Cancer”.  He also participated as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board Meeting at Clarient, Inc in Aliso Viejo CA on May 15, 2006.  Dr. Allred attended the Gordon Research Conference on Mammary Gland Biology held at Il Ciocco, Italy, as a poster presenter, May 28- June 2, 2006.

POWEL H. BROWN, M.D., Ph.D., presented “Novel Strategies for the Prevention of ER-negative Breast Cancer” at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Breast Program and SPORE in Breast Cancer Seminar Series May 19, 2006, in Boston, Massachusetts.

ERIC CHANG, Ph.D., was invited to present his talk, “Cell Signaling and Proteolysis Control” on June 19, 2006 at the ZOMES IV Symposium in New Haven, CT.

JENNY CHANG, M.D., presented “Neoadjuvant Studies with ErbB Kinase Inhibitors in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer” at the ASCO ISSS Symposium June 2, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia.  She also was an invited speaker at USC/Norris June 16, 2006, in Los Angeles, California, presenting “Therapeutic Resistance and Cancer Stem Cells”.

Richard elledge, M.D., was asked by AstraZeneca to participate on an Advisory Board in Dallas on May 6.  The meeting was entitled “Evolving Concepts of Aromatase Inhibitors in Early Breast Cancer: Impact of Recent Clinical Trial Data on Patterns of Care.”  On May 10, he served as a member of the faculty for Physicians’ Education Resource’s Oncology Best Practices in 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale FL, presenting “Adjuvant Endocrine Therapies: a 2006 Perspective.”  The National Institutes of Health invited Dr. Elledge to participate as a SPORE reviewer in Rockville M.D. from May 16-18.  On May 19, he participated in an Advisory Board for AstraZeneca in Washington DC named “Enhancing Adherence to Hormonal Therapy in Breast Cancer: A Focus on Interventions.”  The American College of Physicians invited Dr. Elledge to return as the Oncology instructor at the annual Internal Medicine Board Review held in San Antonio TX June 8-11.  He was invited to participate in a Meet the Professors session in Miami FL on June 16 which consisted of a breast cancer tumor panel discussion and an audio interview.  On June 17, Dr. Elledge was invited to lecture for Physicians’ Education Resource in Dallas on “Emerging Trends in Oncology: A Post ASCO Update”.  Pfizer Pharmaceuticals invited Dr. Elledge to participate in their third annual breast cancer Think Tank held in New York on June 24.

FUQUA, Ph.D., was invited to participate in the review panel for NCI SPORE applications for Breast Cancer held May 16-18, 2006, in Washington DC.  She was also asked to participate in the Tumor, Biochemistry Endocrinology Peer Review Committee meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21-22, 2006.

SUSAN G. HILSENBECK, Ph.D., presented a series of statistics lectures at a minor workshop on "Introduction to Biostatistics in Clinical Investigation" to postdoctoral fellows at the Department of Clinical Bioethics-NIH in Bethesda M.D. May 1-2, 2006. She attended the annual ASCO Symposium and presented an invited talk, "The Magic P-0.05. What Does It Mean and How Do I Get One?" during the Education Symposium "Basic Clinical Trial Design and Methodology" in Atlanta GA, June 1-2, 2006. She participated as a grant reviewer in the NIH Cancer Biomarkers Study Section in Gaithersburg, M.D., June 21-23, 2006.
MAMTA KALIDAS, M.D., was an invited speaker at the 2006 Breast Health Summit, May 4, 2006, in Houston, presenting “HCHD - Problems and Needs for Breast Cancer”.

ADRIAN LEE, Ph.D., attended the Gordon Research Conference Mammary Gland Biology, in Il Ciocco, Italy, from May 28-June 2, 2006, and presented his poster, “Parity Protection From Breast Cancer Due to the GH/IGF Axis”.

MICHAEL LEWIS, Ph.D., attended the Gordon Research Conference for Mammary Gland Biology on May 28-June 2 in Italy, where he presented a poster entitled “Constitutive Activation of Smoothened Leads to Enhanced Proliferation, Altered Differentiation, and Ductal Hyperplasia in the Mouse Mammary Gland”.  Dr. Lewis was also the guest speaker at a seminar held at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on May 11, 2006, presenting “Hedgehog Regulation of Mammary Epithelial Stem/Progenitor Cells in Development and Cancer”.

YI LI, Ph.D., attended the Endo2006 meeting in Boston presenting the invited lecture “ER Status of Breast Cancer May Depend on Both the Cell of Origin and the Initiating Oncogene” on June 24, 2006.  He also participated in a seminar held on March 10, 2006 at M.D. Anderson Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Grand Round.  The title of his talk was “Breast Stem Cells, Oncogenes, and Cancer Phenotypic Heterogeneity”.

STEFFI OESTERREICH, Ph.D., attended the COBRA meeting in Indiana and presented, “Update on SNP Studies in Coactivators and Corepressors” on May 17, 2006. Dr. Oesterreich was also invited to chair the Oral Session “Regulation of Tumor Cell Function” at the 2006 ENDO meeting from June 24-27, 2006, in Boston MA.  Dr. Oesterreich also presented a talk, “ER Corepressors in Normal Mammary Gland Development and Breast Cancer” at the Gordon Research Conference, Mammary Gland Biology, in Il Ciocco, Italy, on June 1, 2006.
 
C. KENT OSBORNE, M.D., was invited to speak at the BioHouston Breakfast Forum on June 14, discussing the startup of the new Cancer Center and how it will affect the healthcare landscape of Houston.  Dr. Osborne spoke at the BCM/M.D.ACC Symposium at UTM.D.ACC on June 30, 2006, presenting “Targeting the Estrogen Receptor and Growth Factor Receptor Pathways for Optimal Treatment of Breast Cancer.”

HEIDI L. WEISS, Ph.D., participated in a poster presentation, "Application of the Continual Reassessment Method in the Design of Phase I Trials in Cancer Immunotherapy" at the 27th Annual Society for Clinical Trials meeting held in Orlando FL May 21-24, 2006.

March – April 2006

D. CRAIG ALLRED, M.D., was an invited Visiting Professor at The Massachusetts General Hospital Pathology Department in conjunction with the Harvard Medical School at the Pathology Grand Rounds and “outs” on Thursday, March 9, 2006, where he presented “New insights into the evolution of human premalignant breast disease to cancer”.  On March 23 and 24, 2006, The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Drs. M. Elizabeth Hammond and Jared N. Schwartz of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) invited Dr. Allred to the ASCO-CAP HER2 Technology Assessment.  Dr. Allred was invited to participate as a presenter for a continuing education CD-ROM and Web cast program by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Task Force Report HER-2 Testing, presenting “HER-2 testing by IHC” on March 30, 2006.  Dr. Allred attended the 2006 CECLINES Conference in which he was invited to participate as a lecturer in Caracas, Venezuela, on April 21, 2006. The topics of his presentations were: “The evolution of premalignant breast disease to cancer” and “Testing for hormone receptors by immunohistochemistry”.  He was also an invited speaker at the V Santiago International Breast Cancer Symposium 2006, in Santiago, Chile, on April 22, 2006.  Dr. Allred’s presentations were entitled: “The molecular classification of breast cancer” and “Testing for HER2 in breast cancer”.

POWEL H. BROWN, M.D., Ph.D., presented “Prevention of estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer” at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center Seminar Series March 16, 2006 in Nashville, Tennessee.  He also was invited to present  “SERMS and beyond: novel strategies for the prevention of breast cancer” at the Update on Management of Breast Cancer March 25, 2006, in Omaha, Nebraska.

JENNY CHANG, M.D., presented “RNA profiling: getting from signatures to diagnostics” at the AACR Annual Meeting April 3, 2006 in Washington, DC.  She also was an invited speaker at the V Santiago International Breast Cancer Symposium April19-22, 2006, in Santiago, Chile, presenting “Neoadjuvant hormonotherapy: why we don’t use it at the clinic” and “Challenging HER family for breast cancer treatment”.

RICHARD ELLEDGE, M.D.,  was an invited speaker at a CME program for Oncology Best Practices in Albuquerque NM on March 1, presenting “Adjuvant endocrine therapies: A 2006 perspective”.  He was requested by Medical Education Resources to serve as a faculty member in the CME initiative Inside Breast Cancer: Current and Emerging Treatment Options on April 8.  The meeting was held in Dallas TX.  Dr. Elledge attended the spring session of the NSABP in Denver, CO on April 27-May 2, where he presented an update on NSABP protocol B-36.  The Houston Internal Medicine Society invited Dr. Elledge to present ”Overview of current approaches to the diagnosis and management of breast cancer” at a meeting held at Trevisio’s.

SUZANNE A.W. FUQUA, Ph.D., was invited to do a presentation for Breast Cancer Research Seminars at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, March 20-21, 2006.  The title of her presentation was “Crosstalk between estrogen receptor alpha and other signaling networks in the problem of tamoxifen resistance”.  Dr. Fuqua also served as the Chair of the Tumor Progression Review Committee for the California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP), which met in San Francisco CA April 22-25, 2006.

SUSAN G. HILSENBECK, Ph.D., presented "Microarray II: Inference" at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Sixth Annual Short Course on Statistical Genetics held in San Francisco, California on March 30-31, 2006. She was an invited speaker and presented "Basic Biostatistics for Clinical Trials" at the 97th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) held in Washington, DC on April 1-5, 2006. She also participated in the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Prognostic and Predictive Factors Conference held in Washington, DC on April 6-7, 2006. She was an invited speaker and presented "Behind the Scenes Look at Research Study Designs" at the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) 2006 Conference held in Washington, DC on April 29-May 2, 2006.
ADRIAN LEE, Ph.D., was invited to participate as a reviewer for the California Breast Cancer Research Program Etiology and Prevention Review Committee in San Francisco, CA from March 20-April 1, 2006.

MICHAEL LEWIS, Ph.D., gave a talk at UTMB on April 25, 2006, entitled “Hedgehog regulation of mammary epithelial stem cells in development and cancer”. 

STEFFI OESTERREICH, Ph.D., was invited to participate as a reviewer for the NIH Oncology Fellowship Review ZRG1 F09S (20) L from March 12-14, 2006 in Bethesda, M.D..

C. KENT OSBORNE, M.D., was an invited speaker to the 5th European Breast Cancer Conference in Nice, France, March 21-25, 2006, where he presented in the Presidential Session “Adjuvant endocrine treatment tailoring in 2006 – dream or reality?”  He was invited to participate at the 8th Annual National African American Breast Cancer Conference, Sisters Network, Inc., on April 7-9, 2006, in Houston TX as Co-chair of the meeting and keynote speaker presenting  “The tumor fingerprint: what it means and how it can be used to improve care of the breast cancer patient.”  Dr. Osborne was the International Director of the 5th International Santiago Breast Cancer Symposium held in Santiago, Chile, April 19-22, 2006.  He participated in a Satellite Symposium by Novartis on Aromatase Inhibitors, participated in a Case Discussion Panel on Early Breast Cancer, a Panel on Advanced Breast Cancer, and a Panel on Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy in Pre-menopausal Women, as well as presenting three talks as follows: “Progesterone receptor: new information about an old marker”; “Role of chemotherapy in patients with HR positive breast cancer”; and “The new biology of breast cancer: from the lab to the patient”.

RACHEL SCHIFF, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at the 2nd Tenovus Cancer Center/AZ workshop 2006, Tenovus Centre for Cancer Research, Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff, UK on April 21, 2006, presenting “Resistance to endocrine therapy in breast cancer: Exploiting ER/growth factor signaling crosstalk”.

CRAIG ALLRED, M.D., participated as a member of the Alberta Cancer Board/Breast Cancer Review Committee in Edmonton on January 4, 2006.  He was invited to speak on January 10, 2006, at the UT SouthWestern Breast Cancer Research Program, presenting “Ductal Carcinoma in Situ and the Emergence of Histological/Biological Diversity in Breast Cancer”.  Dr. Allred attended the 3rd Annual Best of San Antonio -- Breast Cancer: Bench to Bedside Conference in Chicago IL on January 27, 2006, presenting “Pathology Research Impacts on Patient Care and Future Studies.”  On February 1 he presented “Breast Pathology as a Subspecialty“ at the University of Arizona.  Dr. Allred was an invited speaker at the NCCN HER2 Testing Task Force presenting “Assessing HER2 by IHC in Breast Cancer” on February 6 in Chicago, IL.  At the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Allred presented “New Insights into the Evolution of Premalignant Breast Disease to Cancer” on February 19, 2006.

POWEL H. BROWN, M.D., Ph.D., presented “Novel Strategies for the Prevention of Breast Cancer” at the Texas/UK Collaborative Research Initiative-Oncology Workshop in Oxford, January 12, 2006. 

JENNY CHANG, M.D., presented “Apoptosis and proliferation as predictors of chemotherapy and trastuzumab response” and “Gene expression to predict response/resistance to endocrine and cytotoxic therapy” at the 23rd Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference February 22-25, 2006, in Miami, Florida.

ERIC CHANG, Ph.D., was invited to The Susan G. Komen Face to Face Meeting held in Dallas TX on January 17-18, 2006 to participate in a study section.

RICHARD ELLEDGE, M.D., was invited to present at the Pri-Med Southwest Conference in Houston on January 26, 2006.  This CME program was a collaborative effort of Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine.  Dr. Elledge’s lecture was on “Overview of Current Approaches to the Diagnosis and Management of Breast Cancer”.   Dr. Elledge presented a post-San Antonio review at the University of Pittsburgh’s West Penn Allegheny Health System on February 3, 2006, presenting “Targeted Chemo­therapies for Early Stage Breast Cancer.  He was also invited to speak on “Advances in Hormonal Therapy of Breast Cancer” at the University of Virginia in a symposium on current approaches in cancer therapy on February 25. 

SUZANNE A.W. FUQUA, Ph.D., was invited to speak at the 3rd Annual Best of San Antonio: Breast Cancer-Bench to Bedside Program January 28, 2006, in Chicago IL.  The title of her presentation was “Exciting Directions in Translational Molecular Research”.

SUSAN G. HILSENBECK, Ph.D., participated in a Planning Committee meeting for AACR's 2007 Workshop in Cancer Biostatistics, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 9, 2006.  She participated in the ASCO Grants Selection Meeting held in Alexandria, Virginia on February 2-3, 2006.
ADRIAN LEE, Ph.D., was invited to participate as a reviewer for the NIH/CSR ZRG1 ONC-U (90) Molecular Oncogenesis study section in Washington, DC on February 27-28, 2006.

STEFFI OESTERREICH, Ph.D., was invited to present “Estrogen Receptor Corepressors – Role in Hormone Response and Breast Cancer Development and Progression” at The Molecular Signature of Cancer – From Bench to Clinic and Back Again, TX/UK Collaborative Research Initiative-Oncology Workshop in Oxford, UK on January 12, 2006.  

C. KENT OSBORNE, M.D., was an invited plenary speaker to the European Cancer Meeting “Breast Cancer:  From Gene to Cure” where he presented “Targets for Therapy” and was also a co-chair for the Targets for Therapy Session held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, February 2-4, 2006.  Dr. Osborne also participated as an invited speaker at the Satellite Symposium of Novartis Oncology: Extended Adjuvant Treatment of Breast Cancer: Practical Issues where he presented “Extended Hormonal Treatment for Breast Cancer” held following the ECC meeting.   Dr. Osborne participated as a discussant at the Doctorate Thesis Presentation of Grazia Arpino, M.D., entitled “Complete disappearance of ER+/HER2+ breast cancer xenografts with the combination of gefitinib, trastuzumab, and pertuzumab to block HER2 crosstalk with ER and restore tamoxifen inhibition”, held in Naples, Italy, at Centro Congressi of the University of Naples Federico II on February 6, 2006.

RACHEL SCHIFF, Ph.D., was an invited speaker at an AACR Special Conference in Cancer Research, Drugging the Cancer Genome: Developing Rational Combination Therapies for Multigene Cancers, where she presented “Cross-talk between Estrogen Receptor and Growth Factor Pathways as a Molecular Target for Overcoming Endocrine Resistance” on January 25, 2006 in Palm Springs, CA. 

HEIDI L. WEISS, Ph.D., presented a seminar entitled "Feasibility of the Continual Reassessment Method in the Design of Cancer Immunotherapy Trials" at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, on February 7-8, 2006.  She also participated in an NIH Clinical Oncology Study Section in Bethesda, Maryland on February 27-28, 2006.
