Tissue Use Committee Request Forms
Instructions for requesting tissue from the Breast Center at Baylor
College of Medicine
In order to make an informed decision about whether
to grant tissue for a study, the Tissue Use Committee at the Breast Center
at Baylor College of Medicine must become familiar with your study.
Please e-mail Carol (chenault@bcm.edu)
a study brief including the following information:
- Preferred study title
- Name of investigator(s)
- Name and description of factor(s) studied
- Source of funding for study
- IRB protocol number and expiration date under which this study will
be performed
- Study rationale—history of your own research and a literature
review to explain how this project will increase knowledge of each
factor
- Methodology you will use to measure factor(s)
- Type and quantity of tissue required (number of mg of refrozen pulverized
tissue, number of slides of paraffin-embedded, etc.)
- Overall number of specimens needed in order to obtain a significant
outcome
- The kind of information that will be needed about the samples to
make the study worthwhile (e.g. do you want receptor data
for all patients? Follow-up? Survival information? Tumor characteristics?)
- Anything else that you feel is pertinent
The Committee will probably
ask you to come to Houston to present your study in person, though
you may be able to communicate enough of it over the phone that
one of the members will be willing to present your study to the rest
of the Committee. If you do need to come in person, you will be contacted
with appropriate information.
Please do not hesitate to e-mail or call Carol Chenault (chenault@bcm.edu or
713-798-1637) with any questions.
